Why Writing a Will Brings Peace of Mind

As parents, it’s natural to worry about the “what ifs” in life – especially when it comes to our children. Writing a Will means you can choose who would look after them if the unexpected happened, rather than leaving such an important decision to the courts. It also ensures your partner and children are financially secure, with your home, savings and belongings passed on exactly as you wish. Instead of uncertainty, you’re giving your family stability and protection.

A Will also prevents confusion and disputes at a time when emotions may already be running high. By setting everything out clearly, you can reduce the risk of disagreements between relatives and make things much easier for the people you care about most. And with a straightforward, affordable service designed around families, you’ll find that writing your Will is not only manageable, but one of the most valuable steps you can take for your loved ones’ future.

The Questions Every Parent Worries About

Becoming a parent changes everything – and with it comes a whole new set of worries about the future. It’s natural to wonder what would happen to your children if the unexpected occurred, or how your family would cope financially. Many parents also worry about avoiding family disagreements, and whether sorting out a Will is going to be too expensive or complicated. These are very real concerns, and they’re exactly what a well-written Will can help put to rest.

Common Concerns Explained

Who will look after my children?

One of the biggest questions parents ask is what would happen to their children if they were no longer around. By naming guardians in your Will, you take control of this important decision. It means you can choose people you trust, rather than leaving the courts to decide, giving you reassurance that your children would be cared for in the way you want.

Will my partner and children be financially secure?

A Will ensures that your family is supported if the worst should happen. It gives you the power to decide how your home, savings, and possessions are passed on, so your partner and children have financial security. Instead of uncertainty, your loved ones have stability and protection. This is especially important for single parent households.

How do we avoid family disputes?

Sadly, without a Will, disagreements can arise between family members at a time when emotions are already running high. Setting out your wishes clearly in writing removes doubt and prevents confusion. A Will provides certainty, reducing the risk of conflict and making things easier for those left behind.

A Personal Service, Built Around Your Family

As a parent myself, I know how important it is to plan with care and clarity. You’ll always deal directly with me, not a call centre or faceless company. I’ll take the time to listen, explain your options in plain English, and guide you through each step. My role is not just to prepare a document, but to give you peace of mind that your family’s future is secure.

How It Works: Simple, Supportive, Stress-Free

Writing your Will doesn’t need to be complicated or overwhelming. My approach is designed to make the process as calm and straightforward as possible, with clear guidance at every stage. From our first friendly conversation through to the moment you sign your Will, you’ll always feel supported and in control.

Step 1: Free friendly chat
We’ll begin with a relaxed conversation where you can share your wishes and ask any questions. This is the time to talk about what matters most – from who you’d like to care for your children, to how you want your property and finances to be handled.

Step 2: Clear draft prepared
I’ll create your Will in plain English, tailored to your family’s needs and values. You’ll have the chance to read through the draft, and I’ll explain everything clearly so you feel confident that it reflects your wishes.

Step 3: Final signing
Once you’re completely happy, we’ll arrange the signing to make your Will legally valid. You’ll then be able to store it safely, with the reassurance that your family’s future is secure and your wishes are fully protected.

Example & Pricing

Ms A, aged 28 has two children under the age of three and has recently divorced the children's father. Now in her own home and granted custody, but with the children visiting their Dad under a chaperone, she is keen to ensure their future should anything happen to her. It is important that the children are to be raised by her mother, their grandmother, and that her assets pass to the children equally and can be used by her mother for their welfare, inheriting the assets directly at age 21.

I was able to advise Ms A about appointing her mother as Guardian, the importance of also choosing a secondary Guardian, their roles as executors and trustees in her Will and the current situation regarding court best interest decisions. We agreed to include trust powers over her assets which allow for the trustees to manage the children's inheritance until they reached age 21. I drafted a Letter of Wishes to state Ms A's preferences in more details to support a court decision should one be required.

Further, Ms A felt it was necessary to store her Will and the Letter of Wishes securely away from her home. Through me we arranged this on a lifetime basis with the National Will Archive and registered the location of her Will through the National Wills register. â€‹
